How to Clean Makeup Sponges | Step By Step

The makeup sponge is a great helper for creating a perfect makeup look. However, cleaning the beauty sponge that comes into contact with the face daily is an important part many ignore. It looks fine on the outside, but many bacteria and dirt are hidden in the sponge. "You want a clean sponge at all times because, otherwise, it can harbor bacteria and moisture, which can cause breakouts," said makeup artist Mai Quynh. In fact, cleaning the makeup sponge is very simple. Follow the following 5 steps to turn your beauty sponge eggs look brand new!

Step1. Wet the makeup sponge completely

Wet the beauty sponge to be cleaned thoroughly.

Wet the beauty sponge to be cleaned thoroughly. When you first start soaking, keep squeezing and pressing with your hands so that the water can be pressed into the beauty blender egg and the whole sponge can be soaked with water.

Tip! When squeezing the beauty sponge, be careful not to cut or stab it with your nails, as this will damage its surface and shorten its life.

Step2. Work with soap and squeeze repeatedly

Dip the cleansing product directly into the beauty sponge and squeeze with your hand until it lathers and dissolves the makeup product. In addition to commercially available cleansers or powders, soap is a great cleansing product for makeup sponges! After wetting the soap, you can lather the sponge back and forth on the soap and then put it on your palm and press it.

Step3. Keep squeezing and rinsing

Continue and repeat the action of squeezing
→rinsing→squeezing→rinsing...until there is no remaining beauty product to be squeezed out. The sponge is wholly left with clean water.

Step4. Absorb moisture with a dry towel

Use a clean dry towel or paper towel to soak up as much excess water as possible. This will prevent too much water from remaining in the beauty sponge.

Tip! Always use a spotless dry towel. Otherwise, there is a chance that the sponge will become contaminated with bacteria again, increasing the likelihood of mold and mildew.

Step 5. Natural air drying

For the last step, make sure to choose a ventilated place to let the sponge dry. Please do not expose the sponge to sunlight. Just put it in a cool place and keep it ventilated.

Tip! It is best to clean the sponge daily, at least once every two weeks, to avoid the growth of bacteria and prolong its life.
